John Woolf – Outfitter/Guide
Born in Wairoa a small east coast town on the North Island of New Zealand. After growing up in town I opted for the wider open spaces and took up a career farming working a mixture of sheep, cattle and deer stations on both the West and East Coasts of the North Island. It was during this time that I took up the sport of hunting, fishing and tramping (hiking).
My early years of hunting were mainly on small game to pass time after work until I was introduced to deer hunting. The bush clad hills of the the Te Urewera National Park and itʼs surrounding farmland was my classroom. Working on stations in remote areas which bordered this park also had itʼs advantages seeing and shooting game during and after work was a bonus.
Pig Hunting
In the late eighties I started my involvement with the local volunteer Search and Rescue Organisation and have since participated in several exercises and actual searches with mixed results. My involvement has been from a team member to personnel in Headquarters through to organising Search and Rescue exercises.
A career change saw us live in the East Coast Settlements (North Island) of Gisborne, Ruatoria and Tokomaru Bay. The rural living gave me the opportunity to further enhance my hunting skills and chase red deer, fallow deer, goats and pigs after hours.
Hunting with the Family
In 2003 with the support of my wife Andrea and with help from friends in the USA, Hunters Paradise New Zealand Limited was launched.
In 2008 we moved to Ashburton on the South Island to be closer to tahr and chamois hunting and develop our hunting business more.
Andrea and I plus our 4 growing boys have enjoyed the experience of meeting and guiding many hunters and their families from USA, Ireland, Australia and Slovenia over the 8 years Hunters Paradise has been running.
We offer a small personalised, professional and proven hunting operation and look forward to the opportunity to guide you on your New Zealand hunting vacation.
Kind regards
John Woolf
